CAROLIN EMCKE

Respekt ist zumutbar. Texte zu unserer Gegenwart (Respect is not optional. Texts for our Times)

Literaturhaus Basel

This event is NOT in-house! Kaserne Basel, Klybeckstrasse 1b, 4057 Basel

«Democracy is not something we possess, but something we do». Carolin Emcke writes this in the foreword to her new book, «Respekt ist zumutbar». For ten years, she has observed world politics as a columnist, and her writings reveal the continuities hidden within global upheavals: the authoritarian violence of Putin's Russia, the power of tech giants, the systematic rejection of facts, the radicalisation of far-right movements and their parliamentary counterparts. Her texts are a call to confront exclusion and the erosion of empathy. They ask: who do we want to be in times marked by the destruction of democracy and truth?

In cooperation with Kaserne Basel.
