Julia Weber & Hanna Häffner
Weil ich Ruth bin & die Riesinnen (Because I Am Ruth & the Giantesses)
Ruth, the protagonist of Weber’s new novel, is no ordinary girl. Born with a coat of fur, like her mother and grandmother before her, she possesses «the power»: to summon storms, dry up streams, and temporarily transform people into animals. In her, others glimpse the happiness that could be, but is not. What they have forgotten and now long for.
The giantesses in Häffner's novel don't fit into the Black Forest village either. Tall and gaunt, they tower above everyone. And yet they are rooted here. Within the village's narrow confines, they must find their own way.
This event is part of the series «Bodies Tell Stories,» which brings together contemporary texts of intellectual incisiveness and aesthetic assurance to explore questions of genealogy, embodied experience, and structures of violence. In cooperation with Art of Intervention.
