Ukrainian Library
With Serhij Zhadan, Katja Petrowskaja, Claudia Dathe & Irina Bondas
Katja Petrowskaja and Serhij Zhadan present modernist Ukrainian writers. One is Walerian Pidmohylny, the author of the first Ukrainian urban novel. Another is the Futurist Mykhail Semenko. With his manifestos, linguistic play, and visual poetry, Semenko traces a line from the Ukrainian Baroque to the 1920s, laying the foundations for new modern literary forms in Ukrainian literature.
These writers are part of The Ukrainian Library series, which presents the most renowned classics of Ukraine’s literary heritage from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries – to draw attention to the country and its culture.
