CRISTINA MORALES

Easy Reading

Literaturhaus Basel

‘Easy Reading’ tells the story of four women, diagnosed as intellectually disabled, who live in a state-subsidised flat in a gentrified area of Barcelona. Nati describes her symptoms as ‘sliding door syndrome’: Under pressure their relationship to the environment changes. Marga is illiterate and sexually over active; Àngels stutters, Patri has logorrhoea. In integrative dance groups and in the Barcelona’s squatter scene, the women try to free themselves from the control of state institutions and to lead self-determined lives. A virtuoso construct told in multiple voices. ‘An unconventional, complex and radical novel.’ (Missy Magazine)
