To mark the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth this December, her complete letters are being published in German for the very first time. The volume “Liebste Freundin” (Dearest Friend) brings together some 150 letters written between 1796 and 1817, offering both a vivid self-portrait and a window into her age. Sparkling with wit, vitality and Austen’s sharp eye for the follies of English society – particularly its male representatives – the correspondence also reveals a more intimate and vulnerable side of the author. A selection will be brought to life by Claudia Jahn, in dialogue with Trio Candor, who will perform music by Purcell, Gerald Finzi, Gordon Jacob and Sally Beamish.
