ULRICH STADLER (*1939 in Stuttgart) studied, amongst others, at the Free University in Berlin and taught literary studies in Basel, Geneva and Zurich. He always understood his subject as encompassing cultural and literary history and tried to combine this with art and social theory. In his books and essays he covers subjects ranging from the 17th to the 20th century.
